Volunteer or Intern with CARECEN!Summer InternshipPosition: Public Relations/Event Planning and Promotions Intern Description: Intern will work with fundraising and public relations team to plan and execute key fundraising events and activities. The intern will also help secure sponsors and assist in the coordination and planning of the CARECEN Hispanic Heritage Conference and Anniversary Gala in October 2008. In addition, the intern will write press releases, update sponsor and media database and will be exposed to all aspects of the organization. Skills: Applicants should have superior written and oral communication skills, as well as a basic knowledge of MS Office and database management. Marketing, PR, or related majors are encouraged to apply. Start Date: June 2008, or as soon as possible. Hours: Flexible, 20 - 30 hours per week Compensation: Academic Credit and great hands on experience in the field. Volunteer OpportunitiesMock Interviewer 2 to 3 hour one-time commitment Want to volunteer as a mock interviewer for students of CARECEN's citizenship classes? As the culmination of their 10-week session, citizenship students will meet with volunteers who will simulate the interview that prospective citizens have with immigration officers. We ask that volunteers arrive at 9:30am so that we can train you. At 10am we will place you in an office, where you will act as an immigration officer and give the citizenship test to students who come into your office individually. Citizenship Workshops 6 hour one-time commitment Come help immigrants fill out their applications for Citizenship! We will train you on how to fill out the application (form N-400) from 10am to noon, after which we will break briefly for lunch provided by CARECEN. At 12:30 we will begin filling out the applications for those who have made appointments with CARECEN for this workshop, and we will end at 6pm. Citizenship Teacher 2 hour weekly commitment for 10 weeks Classes are Tuesdays (6-8pm) and Saturdays (10-12noon, 2-4pm) ESL Teacher 2 hour weekly commitment for 10 weeks Classes are Wednesdays (6-8pm) and Saturdays (12:30-2:30pm). Want to teach English to speakers of other languages? CARECEN offers English classes for those students who want to practice writing and conversation. We have a great need for ESL teachers on Saturdays for the upcoming summer session. YOU DON'T NEED TO SPEAK SPANISH! Tutor On a need basis, usually week nights and Saturdays, but times can be arranged with the student. We usually offer tutoring to those individuals who have appointments to take their naturalization exam coming up and they need intensive preparation in answering the test questions and practice their English.
