Our work

Each year, CARECEN serves over 5,000 Latino immigrants in the Washington metro area through three primary programs: citizenship and civic participation, immigration legal services, and housing counseling. We have been a mainstay and gathering place for the Latino community since 1981, when we opened to provide support for refugees fleeing persecution from violent regimes in Central America. CARECEN is deeply rooted in the community we serve and has advocated for immigration relief laws, fair and affordable housing, civil rights and access to services and resources for the Central American/Latino community in the Washington metropolitan region.
