PROGRAMS AT THE CENTRAL AMERICAN RESOURCE CENTER WASHINGTON D.C.LEGALEach year CARECEN provides direct legal services, counseling and referrals to over 6,000 people at low or no cost. CARECEN's legal program provides primarily immigration-related legal assistance and counseling, but also provides consultations and referrals in non-immigration related matters, particularly issues involving the workplace. COMMUNITY SUPPORTCommunity Support Services has various programs designed to improve the access of the Central American/Latino community to public services. Housing/Community developmentCARECEN's Housing and Community Development program is designed to assist low-income DC residents protect their rights, increase tenants' access to affordable housing and home/property ownership, and promote tenant-landlord dialogue. CITIZENSHIPThe program is designed to prepare citizenship applicants who are older and who have a basic level of literacy to pass the naturalization test. Individuals are also assisted in the preparation of their naturalization applications(N400). Civic ParticipationResponsible for planning and carrying out advocacy and self-empowerment campaigns to tackle issues that are impacting the Latino community. |
